For years, Craig Melvin has appeared on the Today show alongside Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie and delivered the headlines on MSNBC. But most recently, the seasoned anchor said goodbye to his 11 a.m. timeslot on MSNBC — and when he did, the Today show family was right by his side lending their support.

On March 31, Craig signed off for the last time on MSNBC. Before the broadcast journalist joined the Today team in 2018, he got his start delivering the latest headlines on NBC’s cable show in 2012.

“This nearly decade-long stretch of hosting a cable news program has been a tremendous honor, and I’m so very thankful for the opportunity to really have had a front row seat to so much history,” he said. “I also want to take a quick moment to thank my parents. My mom cultivated the curiosity that landed me here and my dad who taught me hard work pays off. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.”

He continued: “[I want to thank] my wife Lindsey who has endured long days and short nights and last-minute travel. The glue that really keeps it all together. And thank you for letting me into your homes, your businesses and your vehicles for an hour every day. I appreciate you seeing the value in journalism, showcasing the plight of the least among us, simply asking questions and waiting for answers. We need it now perhaps more than we ever have. Thank you.”

After hearing that Craig would no longer be hosting the 11 a.m. MSNBC time slot, fans immediately rushed to the comments section of an Instagram Reel Today posted. “Congratulations on your next chapter. You are definitely one of the good ones. Thank you for the last 10 years,” one person wrote on Instagram. “Nothing beats a guy who cares about his job, his coworkers, his work and the people that helped him,” another added. “Great guy. Wish him only good things ❤️. See you on the Today show Craig!” a different fan said.

That said, there were some folks who thought he was leaving the Today show instead of MSNBC. After figuring out that it was the other way around, viewers expressed their relief that Craig was staying on with Hoda, Savannah, Al Roker and Sheinelle Jones.

“Oh my gosh! You Scared me. Thankful he’s still on The Today Show!!!!” a follower commented. “I was about to freak out cause I thought he left the Today show. I love Craig!!!” someone else wrote. “Just got super scared @craigmelvinnbc I wasn't near a TV at all today and this is the first thing I saw. Glad you're still on @todayshow sorry to see you go on @msnbc But we know you'll continue to bring us great news on Today!!” a fan added.

Though the 42-year-old South Carolina native didn’t share the monumental change on his social media platforms, he opened up about it on Today. “I’m thankful for the opportunity I had over there for 10 years but I’m excited to be here full-time,” he said to Al and Sheinelle. “I’m going to miss my friends across the street as well.”

That’s right — Craig will now focus his full attention on Today and Dateline. So, there’s no need to worry that he’ll be missing from the morning show crew.
