‘Today’ Show Contributor Jill Martin Is Engaged and “Over the Moon”
What a way to celebrate the holiday weekend! Today show contributor Jill Martin had quite the memorable Memorial Day Weekend with her love of nearly two years, Erik Brooks, in the Hamptons—one might even say that it’s one for the b(r)ooks.
On Thursday, May 23, Brooks asked their mutual friend Jodie to help plan a fake beach party to kick off the weekend. Then, when Martin arrived to the “casual party,” she instead found a large tent filled with candles, flowers, and framed photos of the couple from over the course of their relationship.

“I started hysterically crying and it was a few minutes [before] I understood what was going on,” she told Page Six. “I had never experienced anything like that in 43 years. To say I was happy and overjoyed—they were, of course, tears of happiness, but I could cry telling the story right now.”
“It was almost like a storybook,” she continued. “I love that I was absolutely myself. I was in sneakers and a jean jacket, and I had my makeup done from the Today show.”
But the celebrations didn’t end there. Brooks had even flown his parents in from Florida so that they could partake in the celebratory weekend (Martin’s parents were also on hand for the fun surprise). Brooks’ three children were also excited to join in on the festivities.
“His parents had surprised me from Florida,” she said. “I was hysterical. I was just so happy and then the next day … I had a house of 20 people sleeping on blow-up mattresses and celebrating.”
The couple, who met on a dating app, are excited to start wedding planning, though Martin confessed that she hasn’t had a chance to think about anything concretely just yet. “My feet have not touched the ground,” she said.
“I’m shaking,” she added. “I’m over the moon. I have not stopped staring at [my engagement ring]. I wake up in the middle of the night and think, ‘Was that a dream?’ … I’ve never in my life been surprised. I’m like a detective.”
