Well, the fateful day has come: Bed Bath & Beyond's famous everlasting coupons are finally expiring, and the final day to use them to score 20% off has come and gone. The development comes on the heels of the big-name retailer's bankruptcy announcement early last month, and everyone from design enthusiasts to soon-to-be college freshmen is devastated.

What's more, Bed Bath & Beyond has already kickstarted store-closing sales, so if you happen to live near one of the massive outposts, you may want to head there in time to nab with one of those giant shopping carts. There are 360 Bed Bath & Beyond locations scattered across the U.S., so even if you don't live near one, you might want to consider making the trip. After all, there's no better opportunity to score an excellent deal than a liquidation sale.

Hopefully you didn't already toss your coupons because The Container Store will take them! In fact, so will Sur La Table throughout the rest of the month. The coupons will only work in person, so if you live near one of the beautiful outposts, bring those coupons with you.

We're not the only ones moved nearly to tears over the closures. "Millions of customers have trusted us through the most important milestones in their lives—from going to college to getting married, settling into a new home to having a baby," Sue Gove, president and CEO of Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., said. "Our teams have worked with incredible purpose to support and strengthen our beloved banners, Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy BABY. We deeply appreciate our associates, customers, partners, and the communities we serve, and we remain steadfastly determined to serve them throughout this process." Pass the tissues, please.

Perhaps the coupons were to blame, but even economists don't know exactly what led to Bed Bath & Beyond's demise. For a while, the brand was doing something right. In fact, the first Bed Bath & Beyond opened more than 50 years ago in 1971 in Springfield, New Jersey. (Back then, it was called Bed 'n Bath.) Of course, the store evolved into a behemoth selling everything from smart trash cans and coffee makers to comforters and end tables, which covers the "beyond" part of the now-iconic name.

If you're moving, redecorating, or simply stocking up, now is the time for action. And if you end up snagging cups in your haul, be sure to pour one out for BB&B.
