“Today” Fans Lost It When Savannah Guthrie’s Adorable Kids Crashed the Show from Home
While working from home for the April 23 broadcast of Today, Savannah Guthrie took her basement studio setup upstairs, where she was joined by some new colleagues: her two kids, Charley, 3, and Vale, 5. They had some very breaking cuteness to deliver.
“That made me smile,” Hoda Kotb said on-air, watching the two kiddos climb onto Guthrie’s lap. “I have to tell you, my blood pressure went down.”
Guthrie wrangled their wiggly bodies, wrapping them in a hug. “In the sixth week of home basement broadcasting, we’ve really broken the seal,” she laughed. “The duct tape on the door has been lifted, and here they are.”
“I think this should just be our permanent Morning Boost,” Kotb added. “We’ll just keep referring back.” Al Roker and Craig Melvin were also on-air, enjoying the kids’ moment in the spotlight. “I know it’s take your kids to work day,” Roker, who’s also working from home, quipped. “I tried to get my teenager…”
After waving hello to viewers, Charley reached over Guthrie for a tissue, wiping his runny nose. Kotb thought he was going for a snack. “Practicing public health, now we’re gonna go wash our hands and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ twice,” Guthrie laughed. It was the perfect segue into their next interview with Valerie Bertenelli, who was celebrating her 60th birthday. “Happy birthday!” the kids cheered.
Thankfully, Guthrie posted the adorable clip to Instagram for our rewatching pleasure. “Ready for their closeups!!” she captioned the video. “First Charley, then Vale making their appearance on @todayshow! Brought to you by Kleenex 😂 (just kidding not really #notanad).”
Fans obviously loved the surprise appearances, and really enjoy seeing snippets of the anchor’s daily life. “I love this informal craziness of the home broadcasting,” one commenter wrote. “Your kiddos are so cute!😍” Another added, “I love it! May be kind of sad when things go back to ‘normal’ and we do’t see littles popping up on Zooms and broadcasts everywhere! 😆❤️”
“Oh my that was a great way to wake up!!” another viewer commented. “Charlie and Vale are superstar broadcasters!!”
In a separate Instagram post, Guthrie shared a few snapshots of Charley on-air. “Little guest star makes a surprise appearance on TODAY today #newcohost,” she wrote. The comments were full of love there, too. “Thank you for being willing to show the world, especially other mothers, that you can be ALL of who you are meant to be. 💕,” one person wrote. “Somehow children give us that lift we need during times like these,” another added. “Age of innocence❤️ precious.”
It’s safe to say that everyone was refreshed by the little ones’ cameo. Today with Charley & Vale, anyone? They should sign their contracts now!
