Toby Keith Provides Health Update on Year-Long Battle With Stomach Cancer

Toby Keith is providing fans with a health update a year after opening up about his stomach cancer diagnosis.
The country crooner—who last shared details of his condition in December—gave supporters something to look forward to, as he shared a positive status report on his progress.
On June 2, the "Beer for My Horses" singer hosted his annual Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic in Norman, Oklahoma, speaking with local outlet The Oklahoman at a gala ahead of the event, which fittingly benefits kids fighting cancer and their families.
"I'm feeling pretty good," he told the publication. "Basically, everything is in a real positive trend... [but] you never know with cancer, so you have to prepare."
The 61-year-old even communicated his hope that he might be "out on the road this fall," if he's able to get the energy to perform a full live show, and gets a "little break" from his cancer treatments.
He continued: "I've got more wind. And I'm thinking about bringing the band in and setting up, playing two or three days somewhere, just to see if I can get through two hours."
Giving further insight into what he's been up against, he explained that while he's still undergoing chemotherapy, his tumor has decreased in size by a third, with optimistic blood tests to match the encouraging situation.

"I expect next time I look for that tumor to be even less," he said, adding, "and I've only got one that's shown up." Keith expects to have his last scan in "about another eight weeks."
The musical artist first shared the news of his disheartening medical diagnosis in June 2022, via social media, noting that it was detected six months prior.
"Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax,” the "Should’ve Been a Cowboy" crooner wrote at the time.

Despite the news, he promised fans he would hit the stage again once he felt better. "I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait. -T" he added in his post.
Even prior to his own diagnosis, Keith has been a longtime advocate for cancer research, setting up the Toby Keith Foundation in 2006. The charitable organization specifically provides no-cost housing for children receiving pediatric cancer treatment in Toby's hometown of Oklahoma City.
The yearly event broke records this year, raking in over $1.8 million for the cause.
