Wearing masks has become an essential part of everyday life, but that doesn’t mean they have to be uncomfortable. The Mask Helper, which was created by Dave Cisek, is just what its name suggests—thanks to a hand-crafted piece of high quality leather, the Mask Helper is used in combination with a mask to help make mask-wearing easier on your ears. And no matter what size you choose (small, medium, or large), it costs only $5 to buy one.

Cisek, who is from Long Island, New York, started making Mask Helpers in late March, because, he says, “many of my friends and family members who were in the medical field were complaining about the pain behind their ears (from masks).” Since then, thousands of Mask Helpers have been produced and used by medical professionals and everyday citizens alike. This isn’t Cisek’s first venture into making leather goods: He began creating leather wallets, totes, and accessories last year.

As for the origins of the leather used to make the Mask Helper, it’s “all sourced from the USA.” Cisek says.

Unsurprisingly, “the majority of Mask Helpers have been sent to medical professionals,” says Cisek. Just a few weeks ago, “275 [Mask Helpers] were donated to a local hospital.” In total, over 3,000 Mask Helpers have been donated to medical professionals across the country. However, there’s been a decline in orders as of late. Cisek tells House Beautiful, “If the demand was there, I could now produce between 300-500 a day. I wound up buying some machinery to speed up the process, but demand had been dropping steadily.”

Don’t forget to wear a mask, and maybe add a Mask Helper into the mix to make it more comfortable!
