Something very fetch happened to Poudre High School student Charlotte Baker earlier this month.

The sophomore — who is playing Cady Heron in her school's upcoming production of "Mean Girls" — got to meet and record a special video message with Tina Fey.

Fey, who wrote the screenplay for and co-starred in the 2004 "Mean Girls" movie — and later wrote the book for its musical adaptation — is on tour with Amy Poehler for their Restless Leg live comedy show. Charlotte and her mom, Dana Baker, were able to nab tickets to the duo's Oct. 1 Denver show thanks to Dana's friend who is working on the tour, according to Poudre High School theater teacher Joel Smith.

"(Dana's friend) mentioned to Tina that Charlotte is playing the lead role in the musical, and Tina helped arrange for them to get backstage passes after the show," Smith said, adding that it was Fey's idea for she and Charlotte to record a video message for Charlotte's friends back at school.

In the video, Fey gives a shoutout to Poudre High School and tells the cast and crew to break a leg when the musical opens next month. She also left them with a nugget of theater advice.

"Do your scene changes really fast, really tight, because that makes or breaks a high school show. Trust me," Fey said.

The cast and crew, like Smith, were "totally surprised and totally thrilled," with Fey's message, he said.

"I never would have imagined that she would take the time out of her schedule and her tour to do that for us," Smith said.

"She was incredibly generous and gracious and excited to support us," Smith added. "I know the cast is working really hard to make sure the show is up to those standards."

"Mean Girls" will open at Poudre High School Nov. 3. The five-show run ends Nov. 11. For more information on the musical, or to purchase tickets, visit poudretheatre.org.
