Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Roasted Emily in Paris and Twitter Loved It
The shade was at an all-time high at the 2021 Golden Globes.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the 2021 Golden Globes on Sunday night, and they did not hold back. This year's ceremony was under fire early on. Not only was there an abundance of what Poehler termed "flashy garbage" nominated this year, but the lack of diversity among the projects and people nominated brought attention to the upsetting fact that there are no Black members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
"Everybody is understandably upset at the HFPA and their choices," Poehler said in the opening monologue. "Look, a lot of flashy garbage got nominated but that happens. That's like their thing, but a number of Black actors and Black-led projects were overlooked."
"There are no Black members of the Hollywood Foreign Press," Fey added."I realize HFPA, maybe you guys didn't get the memo because your workplace is the back booth of a French McDonalds but you got to change that. So here's to changing it."
Perhaps the harshest blow of Fey and Poehler's monologue was on behalf of Netflix's wildly popular Darren Star comedy Emily in Paris. Both the show and its star, Lily Collins, were nominated this year.

"Emily in Paris is nominated for best TV series, musical or comedy, and I for one, can't wait to find out which it is," Fey began. Then, referencing another nominated project, the 30 Rock alum said, "French Exit is what I did after watching the first episode of Emily In Paris."
