Don’t be surprised if Timothée Chalamet keeps his relationships super top secret from now on.

The Call Me By Your Name actor revealed in a new cover story by GQ that he was “embarrassed” by his kiss with  Lily-Rose Depp that spawned a thousand memes. The year was 2019—you know, a decade ago when people kissed—and Chalamet was in a relationship with Depp, his costar from The King.

After promoting their new film at the Venice Film Festival, the couple shared a highly publicized, low-key awkward kiss on a yacht. Well, Chalamet saw your memes and particularly resents any accusations that the pics were PR stunt for his film—but maybe not for the reasons you’d expect.

“I went to bed that night thinking that was one of the best days of my life,” Chalamet told GQ. “I was on this boat all day with someone I really loved, and closing my eyes, I was like, indisputably, ‘That was great.’ And then waking up to all these pictures, and feeling embarrassed, and looking like a real nob? All pale? And then people are like: This is a PR stunt. A PR stunt?! Do you think I’d want to look like that in front of all of you?!

Chalamet and Depp reportedly ended their relationship in April 2020 after over a year of dating—a split that first made headlines when British Vogue referred to the Little Women actor as single. According to GQ, Chalamet is “serious about keeping his former relationship with Depp to himself.”

In nonrelationship news, Timothée Chalamet was also photographed wearing his own pink Juicy Couture hoodie in his GQ photo shoot, which may be his next viral moment and more than makes up for any awkward boat pics. As one Twitter user wrote, “Timothée Chalamet wearing his own pink Juicy Couture hoodie in this new GQ shoot..........,,,,It’s a lot for me to process, personally.”

Same.
