Timothée Chalamet Comments on Controversial 'CMBYN' Costar Armie Hammer

In 2021, Armie Hammer received a flood of accusations ranging from sexual assault, abuse, and even cannibalism as a result of text-message exchanges and in-person interactions he allegedly had with certain women. This situation seemingly led to his divorce from wife Elizabeth Chambers and served as fodder for the House of Hammer docuseries on Discovery+.
When these accusations came to the surface, certain fans wondered if Hammer’s Call Me by Your Name costar, Timothée Chalamet, would comment on all the controversy. Chalamet had just entered preproduction for Bones and All – a movie where he played a cannibal – which was also going to be directed by Call Me by Your Name helmer Luca Guadagnino.
Now, two years later, Chalamet has finally commented on the Hammer claims in a new profile for GQ. When asked about his personal reaction regarding the allegations that surfaced at the time, Chalamet said:
“I don’t know. These things end up getting clickbaited so intensely. ‘Disorienting’ is a good word.”
Given the coincidental timeliness between Bones and All and the accusations against Hammer, there was also some social media speculation about whether the new Guadagnino-directed project featuring Chalamet had anything to do with personal experiences they had with Hammer.
“I mean, what were the chances that we’re developing this thing?” Chalamet told the publication. “It made me feel like: Now I’ve really got to do this. Because this is actually based on a book.”
In the past, Guadagnino had already shut down the rumbling that Bones and All had anything to do with Hammer. He explained at the time:
“Any link with anything else exists only in the realm of social media, with which I do not engage. The relationship between this kind of digital muckraking and our wish to make this movie is non-existent and it should be met with a shrug.”
Well, we can now say that we’ve heard both Chalamet and Guadagnino’s reactions to the wild accusations about Hammer. So there’s that!
