Between Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens, The Farewell,, Ocean's Eight—*inhales deep breath*—The Bad Guys, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Awkwafina is...pretty much killing it lately. And she shows no signs of slowing down considering her upcoming projects include playing Scuttle in The Little Mermaid, joining the cast of celeb-packed Wildwood adaptation, and landing a major part in Renfield—the upcoming Nicolas Cage/Nicholas Hoult vampire movie that's coming out later this year.
So yeah, not exactly a shock that Awkwafina's reported net worth in 2023 is $8 million and rising. Casual! Here's how she did it.

Most of Awkwafina's Money Comes From Her Film Career

Head to Awkwafina's IMDb page and prepare to scroll a ton, because she's been v busy booking hit movie after hit movie. Her exact salary per project is unknown due to contracts rudely being private, but considering Awkwafina's total net worth is $8 million, we're gonna go ahead and assume she's being paid pretty well by studios. Plus, there's the money she makes from Awkwafina is Nora From Queens AND her book earnings (yes, she wrote a book!).

While we don't know exactly how much Awkwafina makes per project, we do know how she spends her money. "I don’t splurge on literally anything, except for karaoke nights, if I’m treating like a whole group of friends," she told Huffington Post in 2019. "I’ll drop, like, 3G’s on a group night of karaoke, but for myself? No! These pants are from Target dude! What my Grandma instilled in me is an anxiety that it’s going to be gone."

TBH this budget-friendly mentality makes it easier to choose projects she loves: "I have no problem saying no if it’s wack, right? That’s where my relationship with money gets weird. I’m not going to do something that I don’t believe in for money. Even if I was broke, I wouldn’t do that."

That said, Awkwafina does sometimes splurge and spent her first big paycheck on a Gucci handbag and Ableton software.

Music Isn't a Huge Money-Maker for Her

Despite starting her career with viral hits like "My Vag," Awkwafina told Wealth Simple that music doesn't earn her that much money. At least it didn't as of 2017, when she said, "I don’t make a significant amount of money off music downloads. No one does. I only make between $400 and $800 a month from all of the online platforms that sell my music: iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, everything. All of the money from every platform goes through one gatekeeper, and it’s impossible to tell how much comes from each source."

She's Had Some Major Brand Endorsements

Awkwafina isn't exactly out here promoting random subscription boxes on Instagram, but she has worked with brands on big campaigns—like GM, HotelTonight, Nintendo, Oculus, and Google Assistant, to name a few particularly fancy ones.

She Has Money Tied Up in Real Estate

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Awkwafina owns a home in West Hollywood worth $2.277 million (which she recently put on the market for $2.4 million) and a place in Bel Air that she dropped $3.5 million on. The home has floor to ceiling windows, a 2,500-bottle wine cellar, a gym, a pool, and—naturally—a recording studio.

Ultimately, She Focuses on Savings

Awkwafina told Wealth Simple back when she was cast in Ocean's 8 that she saves pretty much everything she makes, saying, "If I get a big check, I try really hard to just put it in a savings account and not touch it. At my level, having done a few films (Neighbors 2, Storks) and shooting the next one (Oceans 8), I get paid real money for sure, but you have to pay everyone who negotiated the deal and pay taxes. What’s leftover isn’t enough to say, 'That’s it. I’m buying a house!'"

Obviously, things have changed since then!
