Timberland Pro Debuts First Line of Women’s Performance-Driven Apparel

Timberland Pro launched its first performance-driven apparel for women “in response to a rapidly growing market,” according to the company.

The global workwear market, valued at roughly $16.7 billion in 2021, per Grand View Research, is expected to reach $29.1 billion by 2031, and many of the laborers suiting up in tough-wearing work apparel are women.

Timberland Pro is well aware of the demand for purpose-built workwear. “The skilled trade industry as a whole is expected to grow 10 percent by 2028, yet there is a significant shortage of skilled trade professionals, especially women,” a company rep said. “Pro aims to celebrate and inspire this community.”

The workwear brand’s first women’s performance apparel line was designed with the same “craftsmanship and innovation” as the Timberland Pro women’s footwear collection, the company said.

Built specifically for women, Timberland Pro’s Gritman Insulated Bib Overalls are designed with lightweight, durable, Thermolite T3 EcoMade insulation to help retain heat for warmth and breathability.

Made for women working in agriculture, construction, manufacturing, welding and woodworking, the performance-ready collection features bibs, jeans, hoodies, utility pants, jackets and T-shirts. The 12-piece capsule is made with weatherproof technologies, Timberland Pro Flex and WorkVent technology, which strategically places perforated air vents for breathable comfort regardless of the work environment for additional movement.

The canvas Timberland Pro Gritman Bib Overalls are intended to be worn over work clothes for enhanced protection and to give wearers more pockets. The back panel and stretch straps are anatomically shaped to accommodate a woman’s physique.

The HyperCore Insulated Jacket 2.0 has an outer shell reinforced with RainRepel technology as well as mobility-enhancing Flex technology. The Timberland Pro Duck Double Front Utility Pant’s double front panels offer extra support when wearers are kneeling. The garment’s cotton-blend canvas fabric is woven with Flex tech for “maximum mobility” for bending, reaching and stretching without restriction. The Timberland Pro Core Cotton Long Sleeve T-Shirt is a midweight tee ideal as a layering piece and features an anatomical fit for more room in the shoulders, chest, waist and sleeves.

“At Timberland we’re always working to create collections that use better, sustainable materials and that is no different with Pro,” the spokesperson said. “For this collection, we used recycled materials that help keep our waste out of landfills along with Timberland’s ReBotl, Timberland’s apparel materials that are made with at least 40 percent recycled materials. In addition, we also use Cordura fabric, which is a long-lasting material that has high wear resistance, making it so the products don’t have to be replaced as often and helps reduce waste.”

The Timberland Pro Fall 2023 women’s collection is now available online, at Timberland stores and select retailers worldwide. Prices run $20-$200.

Timberland Pro’s launch comes as rival brands have invested in women’s workwear.

Dickies collaborated with Jameson Irish Whiskey on a capsule collection of workwear-inspired apparel and accessories for men and women in June and appealed to the Tik Tok generation in May by featuring actress Sydney Sweeney in its “Built Ford Proud” campaign showcasing the Workwear Reimagined collection. Last September, Carhartt granted its support to women in the skilled trade workforce through its “For the Love of Labor” grant program, and in 2020, Wrangler updated its Riggs Workwear line to cater specifically to women.

Dovetail makes workwear by women, for women, using sustainable inputs such as Ciclo, hemp and durable Cordura fabrics.
