It may be the age of sequels and reboots, but one person is protecting a particular film with his whole heart.

In an interview with Empire, Tim Burton celebrates the 30th anniversary of his beloved The Nightmare Before Christmas by setting the record straight: there'll be no sequel or reboot.

"I've done sequels, I've done other things, I've done reboots," he says, but "I don't want that to happen to this. It's nice that people are maybe interested [in another one], but I'm not. I feel like that old guy who owns a little piece of property and won't sell to the big power-plant that wants to take my land."

The Nightmare Before Christmas was released in 1993 and follows Jack Skellington, king of Halloween Town, who discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home cause confusion. Tim Burton is credited as a writer and producer on the film that Henry Selick directs.

In the exclusive interview, he shared that Jack Skellington is a very personal character for him. "I was perceived as this dark character, when I didn't feel that way", Burton said.

The Nightmare Before Christmas scored an audience rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes from 250,000+ reviews. Critics gave it a 95%, calling it "a modern classic".
