Tilda Swinton and Her Daughter Team Up for The Souvenir

Honor Swinton Byrne is already one to watch.

Indie-movie juggernaut A24's The Souvenir was a giant hit at this year's Sundance and stars both Tilda Swinton and her real-life daughter, Honor Swinton Byrne. The movie's new trailer starts slow and steady, but it looks like there's some serious heft and darkness under the surface here.

The film, directed by Joanna Hogg, follows a young filmmaker, Julie (Swinton Byrne), navigating her first serious relationship, with an older man, in the early 1980s, while defying her mother, played by Swinton. A sequel, starring the original cast and Robert Pattinson, is set to start filming later this year.

Swinton Byrne in particular was praised by critics for her performance in The Souvenir. At just 21, she's got a long, long time ahead of her to make a big impression. Less heavily featured in the trailer is the more experienced of the Swinton duo, who still looks her usual otherworldly best. Tom Burke rounds out the cast as Anthony, Julie's older love interest.

The Souvenir will be released on May 17.
