With the Barbie movie hitting theaters on July 21, many people are eagerly anticipating the big day with a strong focus on fashion.

The film is directed by Greta Gerwig and has a stacked cast. It features celebrities like Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon and more. Since the first teaser trailer hit the big screen on December 15, 2022, buzz around the Barbie film has only continued to grow.

And now, TikTokers are getting ready by planning their opening weekend outfits.

TikTok is chock-full of Barbie fans who are already showing off the outfits they’ve prepped to wear to the movie theater. The outfits range from those inspired by Barbie characters to, well, Barbie characters themselves.

Zoie (@thesmallvictorianchild), for instance, brought “Bibbie,” a beloved Barbie: Fairytopia series character to life in her outfit choice.

“Genuinely the best barbie outfit I’ve seen,” commented @100percentflesh.

Zoie’s outfit was such a hit on TikTok that she even posted more details about how she created it from a bra-and-thong set that she covered in a blanket from T.J. Maxx and topped with eye shadow spots.

Like Zoie’s, many TikToks are set to vicmram’s audio of Beyoncé explaining her name choice: “I said I want something big. I said I want something that says I’m here… Beyonce.”

However, other TikTokers planning their Barbie opening day outfits aptly set their videos to none other than the 1997 hit song “Barbie Girl” by Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group Aqua.

Kmila (@thel0veofyourlife1) admitted that she’s been planning her grand-entrance outfit for an entire year. Unsurprisingly, some of her followers were right there with her.

“SAME,” wrote Aubree Taylor (@aubbbunny).

“If you’re not dressing up for the barbie movie is there even a point in going,” questioned @earthtokairyuu.

“Barbie movie = met gala,” agreed @sofiabasilio84.

And, of course, plenty of moviegoers plan on wearing pink — a lot of pink.

“I’m taking my dad and I’m making him wear a full neon pink outfit,” noted @soph1e.dcksn.

Doubleheader day — a.k.a. “Barbenheimer”

Barbie shares the same release date as Oppenheimer, a thriller about the making of the atomic bomb, another highly anticipated film, although with a decidedly different vibe. However, some people also plan to see both as a doubleheader — a phenomenon they are dubbing “Barbenheimer.”

“Both Barbie and Oppenheimer come out on my birthday and not only does that represent me perfectly but I don’t know which one to go to first,” admitted @nopere0p.

Hollywood Take @hollywoodtakeee) explained where the “Barbenheimer” concept originated. Surprisingly, Tom Cruise urged moviegoers to watch both movies, and it’s become its own movement.

Additionally, one account even posted a recommended schedule for the doubleheader. The advice is to begin with the three-hour Oppenheimer, take a break for lunch and then finish the night with the lighter Barbie movie.

“It’s not a war. It’s a union,” observed @hah_kog.
