TikToker shares how to elevate apartment walls with DIY renter-friendly wall molding
Atlanta-based interior designer Sandy Saintilus runs “My Ugly Apartment” (@myuglyapartment), a TikTok account and platform that claims to “transform ugly apartments.”
And in that vein, she shared a hack for using peel-and-stick wall molding to elevate wall space.
She claimed that using wall molding from Luxe Architectural is useful for renters because it’s “completely removable” and easy to install. The molding comes in different shapes, so you can add larger molding for big spaces on the wall and accent the top or bottom with smaller molding.
A nine-piece self-adhering wall molding kit on Luxe Architectural’s website costs $400. However, commenters on Saintilus’ TikTok noted that while they loved the look she achieved, there are other ways to get a similar aesthetic for a lot less money.
@muffinsss suggested buying floor trim instead of an entire molding kit: “If you don’t want pay that price I’d honestly just buy the trim which is super cheap and just glue it or buy self adhesive tape.”
“Go to home depot trim section. You will see all types 8ft long super cheap. Get a small hack saw, angle cut your moldings and buy peel tape. About $40,” suggested @internationalshark.
@salt.light.love_ agreed with looking into trim and also suggested another route if you want a molding kit: “Yes!! Or get it on Etsy. Many merchants sell the mounding kits wayyy cheaper.”
Regardless of the price or tools you choose to achieve the look, Saintilus added in the comment section that she feels the hack she shared or the ones her commenters suggested could all be money-saving strategies when compared to hiring someone to do the look.
“Good deal. I’ve had a professional charge me $600-$1200 for a room this size and that was just for labor,” she said.
