TikToker Insists on Specific Rule For Anyone Adopting a Shelter Animal

Every adopter should remember this rule.

Adopting an animal is not all rainbows and butterflies. It can be very difficult at times. You might think your fur baby doesn’t like you or they can’t seem to understand your ways. That’s why it’s so important to have patience when you adopt.

Far too often we hear about people giving up on their adopted pets and then they end up surrendering these precious babies back to the animal shelter. To hopefully avoid that from happening even more, TikTok user @savannapalmerr preaches the 3,3,3 rule for those who adopt a pet. We think this is such great advice so take a look!

Wow! This is such an eye-opening way to look at the adoption process. These animals have already been through so much. They have many emotions, just like we do. They can be sad, angry, scared or all of the above. That's why it's so important to give them time.

“I work at a shelter and it makes me so sad when adopters return the animals simply because they did not give them enough time to adjust,” commented @n.ea23. We know it’s hard, but trust us, it truly just takes time. As the 3,3,3 rule says, it can take them 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine and 3 months until they start to feel at home. Patience is a virtue!

This clip also serves as an important reminder to weigh out the pros and cons of adopting before you go ahead and pull the plug because well, it’s not for everyone. Having a pet is such a big responsibility and there are things to think about before adopting.
