TikToker finds her 1994 JCPenney purse in mom’s attic, and it is an absolute time capsule: ‘Took me right back’
Coming across forgotten relics from your past is always a fascinating (and sometimes emotional) experience. But one TikToker was psyched to find an old purse from her tween years tucked away in her mother’s attic recently and decided to share what she found with the internet.
“So, I found this bag (surely from JCPenney) when we went through my mom’s attic,” wrote @wedontwannagrowup, an account dedicated to all things nostalgic. “It’s been up there for almost 30 years and I wasn’t sure what 13 year old me left in there to find!”
Turns out, her former teen self left a lot of hidden treasures in that little plaid handbag.
Inside, she found a mini photo album holding her National Junior Honor Society membership card and a ticket to Forrest Gump. She also found a photo of herself with her brother (the kind many of us used to take in Sears) and handwritten notes she’d been passed by friends.
When she dug further into the bag, the TikToker came up with old Jolly Rancher candy wrappers, a packet of Tylenol that expired in 1995 and a batch of photos from Walmart.
There was even a yellow plastic ball from the McDonald’s ball pit inside!
But perhaps the best part of the clip is Lisa Loeb’s iconic song “Stay” playing in the background, which can’t help but transport you back to 1994.
In the comments, a lot of people appreciated the walk down memory lane.
“It’s a time capsule,” said one person, who called the find “amazing!”
“Damn I just got goosebumps,” shared someone else, while another said, “Took me right back.”
Others got surprisingly emotional about it.
“This makes my heart hurt cause we simply can’t go back,” one person lamented.
“This actually made me grieve my childhood,” added another.
But many other TikTokers took it as a chance to celebrate those tiny moments from the past instead of mourning them.
“Picture albums!” one user exclaimed. “I remember ‘do you have any pictures?’ As a conversation starter for folks! Or ‘let me look at your pictures!'”
“Oh my gosh in 94 I took a ball from the ball pit too,” someone else admitted.
“You found a Time Machine,” another person said.
