  • TikTok personality Addison Easterling, aka Addison Rae, apologized for posting an “all lives matter” video four years ago.

  • She said she wasn’t educated when she posted the video, which recently resurfaced.

After stepping back from social media on June 30, TikTok personality Addison Easterling (Addison Rae) returned to apologize for sharing an “all lives matter” video four years ago.

Her post resurfaced this summer, and I’m not even going to include the video here because it endangers the lives of Black people by claiming Black Lives Matter (which simply affirms Black people’s right to be alive) “is a cult.”

Taking to Twitter, Addison wrote:

“I owe all of you an apology. Four years ago, I reposted a video which included a woman sharing her thoughts on Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter that I should not have. Because of my privilege, I didn’t understand and wasn’t educated enough on the social injustices facing the Black community. All lives CANNOT matter until Black lives do. The Black community was and continues to be oppressed and damaged by systemic racism.

“I see my mistakes and am committed to learning from them. I will never stop growing, learning, and fighting for those whose voices rightfully need to be amplified and will forever believe that Black Lives Matter. If you haven’t done so already, please join me in supporting and learning more about the global Black Lives Matter movement. I am truly sorry and I am committed to using the platform you all have given me to work on becoming a better ally. I love you all endlessly.”

On that note, here are guides for how to demand justice right now, how to support Black trans lives, how to find mental health resources if you’re a Black woman, how to talk to your relatives about Black Lives Matter, how to donate wisely, how to spot a fake protest story, and how to protest safely.
