TikToker accidentally bleaches Home Depot bag into his hair in shocking PSA: ‘Low key kind of a serve’

A DIY hairdo is serving as a cautionary tale to TikTokers everywhere: If you’re tempted to bleach your hair at home, avoid using Home Depot bags — or run the risk of turning your head into a walking billboard.

TikTok user @TubTok gained more than 2.4 million views, 332,000 likes, 14,000 saves and 3,800 comments when they uploaded the shocking hair PSA to their account.

Now, much like the USPS worker who took to TikTok to warn people against “cute” return address stickers, @TubTok‘s warning is going viral.

The video begins with raucous laughter and a stark warning in the caption: “WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE THE HOME DEPOT BAG WHEN BLEACHING YOUR HAIR.”

As one of the subjects doubles over in laughter, the shocking hair disaster is revealed in all its orange glory.

It would appear that the bag, used to help the hair absorb the bleach and apply it evenly, accidentally transferred the Home Depot logo and print to the freshly bleached locks.

While this clearly wasn’t the look the TikToker was going for, many felt they had accidentally stumbled upon a new trend.

“Low key kind of a serve,” user @caiazzoo wrote.

“Wait this kinda eats tho,” commented @selenethemoon.

Others begged @TubTok to upload a new version of the video, this time with a fitting TikTok sound.

“😭😭 PLEASE mix this with the Home Depot theme song,” requested @taylorrhess.

Much to TikTokers’ delight, @TubTok obliged in a follow-up video.

According to one TikToker, the Home Depot print isn’t a mistake @TubTok will have to live with for long.

“It doesn’t stay. The bag transfers don’t stay in the hair. It’s sitting on the lightener,” commented user @jonscottwontstop, whose bio describes him as a professional hairstylist.

While the plastic bag transfer might be a temporary mistake, it’s actually not an uncommon one — nor a new one.

In 2019, Reddit user u/kttyfrncs took to the subreddit r/WellThatSucks to share the story of a girl who accidentally transferred the Walmart logo to her freshly bleached hair.

And it’s not the only mistake people seem to make when bleaching their hair at home.

In March, TikTok user @envykenzy shared what happens when you apply too much bleach to a test strand — and pull way too hard.

According to beauty website Bellatory, there are nine common mistakes DIYers make when bleaching their hair:

  1. Getting started before you have what you need.

  2. Not reading the instructions.

  3. Skipping the test strand step.

  4. Bleaching your hair alone/without friends’ help.

  5. Leaving the bleach on too long.

  6. Forgetting to deep condition.

  7. Bleaching hair that has already been bleached.

  8. Bleaching damaged or overprocessed hair.

  9. Skipping the toner.

And of course, rather than a plastic shopping bag (say from Home Depot or Walmart), Bellatory recommends using a plastic cap or a plain, transparent plastic bag when bleaching one’s hair.
