Maximalism

Maximalism in interior design is an exuberant and bold style that celebrates excess and embraces an eclectic mix of colors, patterns, textures, and decor—so it’s no wonder the design has taken off on TikTok, a social media space that rewards users for their creativity.

According to The Burrow, 449 million people viewed maximalism content in the U.S. on TikTok over the last 12 months, but it’s most popular in Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Washington.

Midcentury Modern

In the early 1900s, a new interior design style emerged, and we just haven’t gotten enough of it since. Midcentury modern is characterized by a clean and uncluttered aesthetic, with sleek lines, minimal ornamentation, and a focus on functionality. Think natural materials like wood, and large windows and open spaces.

More than 210 million people viewed midcentury modern content on TikTok in the U.S. this year, and it was the most popular interior design trend in Iowa.

Boho Style Decor

Boho style is an interior design style that encapsulates a free-spirited, eclectic, and artistic aesthetic. Characterized by a love for nature, you'll often find indoor plants and natural elements like wood and rattan in this design style, along with layered textiles, such as vibrant rugs and tapestries.

Boho style is the third most popular interior design trend on TikTok for Americans, according to The Burrow, with 124 million searches over the last 12 months. Kentucky and West Virginia seem to appreciate the boho style trend most.

Grandmillennial

Grandmillennial interior design, sometimes affectionately referred to as “granny chic,” is a nostalgic and whimsical design trend that combines traditional, classic elements with a modern twist. It's characterized by a love for antique and vintage decor, including floral patterns, chintz fabrics, ruffles, and ornate details.

Americans searched for grandmillennial interior design on TikTok 49 million times this year, The Burrow reported.

Cluttercore and Pink Bathrooms

There was a tie in fifth place between cluttercore and pink bathroom, which both had about 26 million views on TikTok in the U.S. — but their vibes can really work together.

Cluttercore interior design is a deliberate departure from minimalism, celebrating the art of organized chaos. It embraces a maximalist approach, featuring an abundance of decor, collections, and personal items that might seem cluttered at first glance but are actually collections of sentimental items. It incorporates a hodgepodge of colors, patterns, and textures, creating a cozy, lived-in atmosphere that exudes charm and personality. Cluttercore is particularly popular in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Of course, pink bathroom interior design is pretty much exactly what you might think—it’s a bathroom that is pink. Likely taking its lead from the Barbiecore trend, you can create a pink bathroom with towels and accents, pink tiles, printed wallpaper, and more. Mississippi and New Jersey are both partial to the pink bathroom trend.
