Joshua Bassett did the thing! The singer is currently on the road for his Complicated tour (a fitting name, considering all of the drama in his love life ever since “driver's license” was released) and smoothly handled a little issue with a fan in the audience at the Roseland Theater in Portland. While performing “Set Me Free,” a song widely thought to be about dealing with the backlash following his break-up with Olivia, a fan yelled “F**k Olivia!” in the crowd.

Joshua didn’t stop singing, but looked up from the piano with a concerned, disapproving look on his face and shook his head at the fan who started heckling her. He rolled his eyes and went back to the keyboard without missing a beat.

Fans praised the mature way he came to Olivia’s defense in the comment section of @mia__renae_’s TikTok that’s garnered over 3.3M views so far. “AWH TELL ME HE ISNT THE KINDEST SOUL,” wrote one fan. "Did I just fall deeply in love with joshua bassett,” another joked. One fan who was in the audience during the show popped into the comment section to spill, "I was there and we all just gasped.”

Joshua and Olivia broke up in 2020, and “driver's license” was released in January 2021. The Internet jumped on the alleged love triangle between Joshua, Olivia, and Sabrina Carpenter after realizing that the exes had been taking subtle jabs at each other through their music. When Olivia dropped Sour, a majority of her fans ganged up against Joshua and his fans, creating major online drama.

Needless to say, it's understandable that the passionate person who yelled “F**k Olivia” might’ve felt defensive towards Joshua. Last year, the singer opened up about how the post-Sour death threats and hate messages took a massive toll on his physical health to the point where he was hospitalized for heart failure and diagnosed with stress-induced septic shock. “The doctors were like, ‘If you hadn't checked in within 12 hours, you would have died in your apartment,’” Joshua admitted. "It's wild that I was this close to taking another nap.”

But a year later, Joshua is doing great. He hit the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiere red carpet with Olivia at his side (!!) to the surprise and delight of fans everywhere. He's also been openly enthusiastic about his recent faith journey, sharing on Instagram that he's doing "better than ever."

After taking to social media to share how his recent encounters with God have helped him find peace after a whirlwind year of health scares, he affirmed concerned fans of his good intentions, tweeting, "To be abundantly clear: I love ALL! if you are a human being, you have a seat at my table. we are called to love and let God do the rest! 1 John 2:9 “Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.”'

We're happy for you, Joshua! ❤️
