What Does 'Rizz' Mean on TikTok?

"Rizz" is a shorter slang term for "charisma." If a person has rizz, it means that they are especially talented at attracting their love interest—most commonly through verbal communication. You could refer to them as a charmer, so to speak. Usually, rizzing is when a man is trying to attract a woman, but it can be the other way around, or used in any context of someone trying to charm their romantic interest.

What Is 'Unspoken Rizz'?

You've seen it in every single romantic comedy and between girl best friends—the ability to speak so much with just one look. When a guy can get his affections across to the girl he's trying to win over without saying a word, that is known as "unspoken rizz." All it takes for this aspect of rizzing is the right facial expression and maybe a little bit of proper timing. Some have it, and some just don't. At least not with every girl (or guy).

What Does It Mean to 'Rizz up a Girl'?

To "rizz up" mostly means to charm, so if a guy is going to "rizz up a girl," he's preparing to go lay down his best moves. It not only refers to his preparation, but the act of verbally flirting with the woman that he wishes to get. In the past, this type of behavior has been referred to as courting, pursuing, or having swagger.

If you're thinking of going to rizz up a girl, or anyone for that matter, all you need to do is summon your best moves and be yourself! The right person will reciprocate.

What Is Rizz in Dating?

Dating typically begins after flirting, and that's where having rizz is most important! If your flirt game is weak, you may end up being labeled with the type of rizz no one wants, "L rizz." (More on that later.) But if you have a talent for flirting and can convey your intentions in a non-creepy way, congratulations! You have rizz.

Why Is Everyone Saying Rizz?

Trends are all the rage with Gen Z, and none more so than those found on TikTok. Although TikTok was launched in 2017 it's gained much more popularity in the last few years. And with more and more independent content creators rising into the spotlight through different platforms like TikTok and Instagram comes more and more popular phrases, dances, fashion and trends in general.

Peer pressure ignores no one, especially in high school, so unless teenagers keep up with (and in some cases, create) all the latest trends, they could be wrongfully deemed socially inept. By saying and using rizz, people are keeping up with those trends.

What Is an Example of Rizz?

There are different types of rizz—two of the main types being "W" and "L." W refers to a "win" and L refers to a "loss." Let's look at an example of both types.

Example of W Rizz

A guy walks into his favorite coffee shop to get his morning brew. While waiting for his drink, he notices the same cute girl sitting at the same table as always, but this time is different. This time they finally make eye contact. She smiles and he smiles back as he makes his way over to her. He strikes up a conversation and gets her number before picking up his order to head out for work. Since the flirting ultimately got the guy her number, his rizz resulted in a W.

Example of L Rizz

L rizz would have had a less-than-desirable outcome. Let's say, in the same example, the guy tries to begin the conversation, but it does not go well at all. She does not want to give him her number and he ends up leaving with nothing more than his coffee and a slightly heavier heart.
