Tiffany Haddish Brought the Fashion Headband Back to the VMAs 2018

2018 is shaping up to be the year of the headband, thanks in part to Chrissy Teigen and now Tiffany Haddish.

The comedian and actor walked the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet in a floor-length black-and-white gown that was half beaded, half sheer. But the look was really complete thanks to a beaded headband that perfectly matched the whole ensemble.

Tiffany wore the headpiece atop an updo that, from the front, looked like a slicked-back bun. Viewed from the side, it’s actually a wraparound braid starting from the crown of her head and ending tucked beneath the headband. It could even be described as “I don’t want bangs in my eyes while I wash my face, but make it fashion.” In a statement, Tiffany's stylist Oscar James, explains how he "took inspiration from her dress."

"We loved the ethnic look of it and wanted to go with a hairstyle that would complement and last all night," he said. James used extensions to add length to the braid, then finished the look with Suave Professionals Natural Hold Micro Mist Hairspray to keep the style intact all night.

She paired the statement headpiece with a subtle cat eye and a nude lip. It’s good she kept things simple, because this wasn’t her only look of the night — Tiffany switched to a blouse and skirt outfit to appear on the VMAs stage. The one thing she didn’t have to change? Her hair, because that headband kept her look together perfectly.
