Tiffany Haddish on the Beauty Advice She Would Give Her 15-Year-Old Self

Whether donning UGGS on the stage at the 2018 Oscars or infamously repeating an outfit, Tiffany Haddish may be one of the most unapologetically herself actors in Hollywood. But as it turns out, that wasn't always the case.

Tiffany opened up in People's "Most Beautiful" issue to reveal the one beauty regret she has from her younger years, which came as a result of her trying to change her appearance so others would like her.

When she was 15, the star got a perm for the first, and only, time in her life, and she seriously regretted it. “All the girls in school had perms and stuff or they already had naturally silky hair, so I thought if I get a perm, and then I can get in the swimming pool and my hair will lay straight and then boys will like me and all that,” she said. “But I was too goofy anyways.”

Later on, she realized that she didn't need to alter her appearance as she had initially thought. “[Boys] gon’ like you regardless, you a girl!” she said. “... Except for when all my hair had fell out [from the perm], and I was like bald."

With this mildly traumatizing experience under her belt, modern day Tiffany wishes she could go back and give her 15-year-old self one very important piece of beauty advice: “Just be who you are.”

Tiffany seems to have figured out what beauty looks like for her and now follows a mantra of self-love we could all borrow from: “I love and approve of you and it doesn’t matter what anybody else in the world thinks because you’re beautiful to me.”
