The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Marvel has hired the showrunner of The Bear, Joanna Calo, to work on the script for their upcoming film Thunderbolts.

Thunderbolts is set to begin filming next month and will follow a group of supervillains who are recruited to go on missions for the government.

The cast list is stacked, featuring Florence Pugh, Geraldine Viswanathan, Rachel Weisz, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and David Harbour, with Lewis Pullman also rumored to be joining the gang.

Calo won a Primetime Emmy for her work on The Bear and has also written for other hit series, including Beef and BoJack Horseman.

She joins Eric Pearson and fellow writer for Beef, Lee Sung Jin, on the project.

Thunderbolts also has an Emmy-winning director in Jake Schreier, who also worked on Beef with Calo.

Due to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, the film recently switched release dates with Fantastic Four. It will now land two months before its original release date.
