Three Searcy sisters have lived a combined 300 years

SEARCY, Ark. – Three hundred years, the combined age of three sisters in Searcy.

The word fun doesn’t even begin to describe these ladies…they’re full of life and love.

  • 94 years ago   – The first World Cup

  • 100 years ago – The first ever Winter Olympics took place.

  • 106 years ago – World War I ended.

Woodruff County World War II veteran turns 100 years old

These three women were alive when a lot of history was being made and today they say the world looks a little bit different.

Opal Bailey is a young 106-year-old, Ethal Milam is right at a century and Jean Harkrider is not far behind at 96 – she keeps the group in line.

“All of us together is 300,” Harkrider said. They say kids these days know how to have a good time, but these sisters will give them a run for their money. They’ve got 300 years on them.

The trio lives at Providence Senior Living, and they’re tight-knit.

“Well just about as close as you can get,” Milam said.

“I’ve done it this long it’s just become a habit,” Harkrider said.

They all grew up in Jackson County, Arkansas.

“It was fun, we did have disagreements, but we worked them out,” Bailey said.

Fun is still had today. When asked if they get into any trouble, Harkrider said, “Oh no, no, no, no, no, no,” with a twinkle in her eye.

They play cards, and of course…still go to the hairdresser.

Opal took her age to new heights, by flying in an airplane with her grandson last year.

“They’re extra special, hope you all will come along, we’ll join you somewhere,” Bailey said.

Sisters are built-in best friends, always there for one another.

“I always knew I’d have a home as long as she lived,” Harkrider said.

They have their secrets to living this long.

“Work hard and enjoy life,” Harkrider said.

“Love God,” Bailey said.

But not every secret is shared with each other. When asked if they tell each other everything, Harkrider said, “Yes…most.”

But side-by-side they take on each day, thankful for the decades that they say went by in the blink of an eye.

“I’ve just had a good life, wonderful parents, happy home to grow up in,” Milam said.

“I feel so honored, more than 106 times,” Bailey said.
