Thousands of vacation goers were severely let down by Norwegian Cruise Line when their 10-day trip was shortened to only three days as a result of mechanical issues, just after making its way from Miami to Puerto Rico.

It wasn’t until an hour before the Norwegian Jade cruise ship was set to leave its first destination on Sunday evening that passengers were informed the rest of the trip was canceled. Then they received a letter on Monday morning saying that the boat would remain docked in Puerto Rico until Tuesday, at which point everybody onboard would be “required to disembark.” In the meantime, passengers aren’t allowed to come and go from the ship as they please.

“Our team is actively working to fly guests to Miami, where the cruise originated, and helping them modify their travel arrangements for their return home,” a spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line tells Yahoo Lifestyle, while also ensuring that all services aboard the ship are fully functioning. However, the mechanical issues have prevented it from sailing the scheduled itinerary, which includes Barbados, St. Kitts, and St. Lucia.

“As a goodwill gesture, we will not only issue a full refund for this abbreviated cruise, but will also extend a 100 percent credit for a future cruise in the amount paid for the current itinerary.”

Now, passengers are anticipating a nearly week-early return to Miami, with some planning to take advantage of the scheduled vacation time and the refund, according to the Miami Herald. Still, one passenger named Dennis Warren told the publication that the ordeal is “inconvenient.”

Nevertheless, Norwegian Cruise Line maintains that “no one is stranded. We have flown many passengers back to Miami and are continuing to do so throughout today.”
