'Thor: Love and Thunder' Will Address a Long-Running Mystery About Jane's Breakup

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to finally reunite Thor (Chris Hemsworth) with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) – which begs the question of what happened to their relationship.
Portman's character, who will take on the mantle of the Mighty Thor in the new movie, sat out the last movie Ragnarok, with the couple breaking up following her last appearance in The Dark World.
The stars have now revealed that Love and Thunder will shed more light on their split with flashback sequences, Hemsworth revealing that they realised they had "filled in the blanks with what [they'd] thought had happened" though "there actually wasn't a whole lot".

"There actually wasn't a whole lot of evidence to definitively say, 'This is how they broke up. This is what happened'," he told Disney's D23 Magazine (via The Direct).
"It was left open for interpretation, which was great because it allowed us to go on this fun journey. 'What did their relationship look like when they were together? What did it look like when they were breaking up? Why did they break up?'
"It's some of the funniest stuff in the film."
Portman added: "It was really fun to get to imagine the parts of their relationship we hadn't seen... and the hard parts of a scientist dating an otherworldly superhero."

While fans may be hoping that Thor and Jane rekindle their romance, director Taika Waititi previously admitted that we shouldn't expect too much, even if the film is focused on love.
"I think most people will assume that the love story is between Chris and Natalie," he told Empire. "I can't promise that what people think is going to happen in this film will happen."
