Father's Day may be over, but according to Thomas Rhett, it's never too late to celebrate the many wonderful "things dads do."

The country star took to his Instagram on Wednesday to share a heart-tugging acoustic version of "Things Dads Do," an unreleased song about the special bond between father and son. Thomas Rhett co-wrote the sweet ballad last year with his father, Rhett Akins, who is also a well-known country singer-songwriter.

“I wrote this song with my dad, for my dad, and for all the dads out there,” Thomas Rhett said in his Instagram post.

“I meant to post this song on Father's Day but I never got around to it," he added. "So, better late than never."

The lyrics list classic "dad" moments, like funny misunderstandings about childhood chores (He'll make you mow the grass and do it for free / You think you're done he'll say rake the leaves), but they also touch on more sentimental moments, like the births of Thomas Rhett's daughters (He'll say she looks perfect and he'll shake your hand and say now you'll understand / Things dads do / You'll think it's crazy until you want two).

The chorus is especially relatable, as it spotlights more groan-worthy fatherly behavior:

I know it seems like he's flying by the seat of his out-of-style jeans / You'll get embarrassed when he ruins your cool / When he pulls out his camera on your first day of school / And that's just a few / Things dads do

Although Thomas Rhett has played "Things Dads Do" in concert before, the song has not been officially released. Many fans heard it for the first time on Instagram, and were touched by its gentle melody and simple, heartfelt lyrics.

"I’m gonna 😢 sooo sweet," one fan wrote in the comments section.

"Tears and shivers. Thank you!" another commenter wrote.

"That was Amazing!!❤️❤️ it made me think of me and my dad!!❤️❤️" a third fan said.

While the song honors the many little acts of kindness Thomas Rhett's father has done for him through the years, the singer uses the final lines to reflect on becoming a father himself.

"The next thing you know, one's five and one's three and one's almost one and she's cutting her teeth, and you're in his shoes and you're starting to do more than a few things dads do," Thomas Rhett croons in a clear reference to his own daughters with wife Lauren Akins: Willa Gray, 4, Ada James, 2, and Lennon Love, 4 months.

It's clear that Thomas Rhett's latest song came straight from his heart. We love this song and look forward to playing it every Father's Day in the future!
