This $14 car phone mount is key for road trips — grab it while it's on sale for Black Friday

Almost every state has a hands-free driving policy (as in, Don't Do It!), but not every car has built-in GPS, Apple Carplay or Android Auto. So what are you supposed to do if you have zero directional sense, like me? Easy: Use a phone holder. These nifty little devices can keep your phone positioned so that you can glance at it without taking your eyes off the road — perfect for holiday trips. Right now, the Suuson phone holder, one of Amazon shoppers' favorite models, is on sale for just $14 for Black Friday.

This holder works with almost any model phone and vehicle. Mount it to your dashboard, windshield or vent without leaving a trace when you remove it.

Why is this a good deal?

If you plan to use your phone while driving, either for GPS or as a streaming device for music, you need to be hands-free. Trust us: it's a lot less expensive than a ticket, especially when you can pick this mount up for just $14.

Why do I need this?

Many phone holders struggle to maintain their grip when the temperatures start to climb (or drop), but not this one. The Suuson can maintain its adhesion in temperatures ranging from –4°F to 203°F. If you remove it and it doesn't feel sticky, a quick rinse with soap and water will make it like new again.

As for why you need this, we'll reiterate: Most states have hands-free driving laws. If you're caught glancing down at your phone, you can pay a pricy fine. Not to mention it's dangerous to, you know, not look at the road.

What reviewers say

"It's been a game changer for my daily commute," one reviewer said. "This car phone holder has made my daily commute safer and more convenient. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and affordable solution to keep their phone within reach while driving."

"I love how it hooks onto the air vent rather than grips it," said this motorist, who learned the hard way. "With the two support arms, it doesn’t put any weight on the air vents, which grip-style do; they've worn out the hinges on my previous cars vents."

Another shopper wrote, "I recently bought this phone holder for my car and it has exceeded all of my expectations. I used the AC vent mount and it is very sturdy and remains intact while driving. The adjustable arms firmly hold my phone, even during bumpy roads or sudden stops. It is easily adjustable and super easy to install, so I was able to rotate it to get the perfect angle for my needs. Overall, this product is outstanding and I would highly recommend others give it a try."

"Works great," said one customer. "Only downside is that it's bulky."

While we're talking cars.... If you spend a lot of time behind the wheel, you might struggle to keep your ride shipshape. These handy-dandy devices keep that chore as easy as possible:

Just press into your car's vents, down around the shifter, and in any other hard-to-clean space to keep it dirt and dust-free.

Aside from their fab price (over 40% off!), we love the real-time power readout on the front of the case of these earbuds, making it so much easier than pulling out your phone and swiping to find out how much charge is left. The top number shows how much juice is in the case, while the two smaller indicators show readings for each bud. Pretty smart! But that's not their only innovative feature: These buds have everything you'd expect in a quality pair. On-ear controls let you answer calls, skip songs and activate Siri. They also have multiple sound modes to pick from. Nearly 8,000 five-star fans can't be wrong, right?
