Thinking of Dropping Anchor? This Eye-Catching Houseboat Is Up for Grabs in Seattle

Back in 2011, Russ and Gemma Daggatt fell in love with a floating home resting in a prime locale at the end of a dock in Lee’s Landing Marina, within the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle.

The creative and fun-loving couple wound up purchasing the place with sweeping views of South Lake Union, Mount Ranier and the downtown Seattle skyline, and subsequently enlisted Jim Graham of the local firm Graham Baba Architects to reimagine it to their personal tastes; now, almost 12 years later, they’ve decided to put the eclectic abode up for sale, asking $6.2 million.

Originally built in 1992, Houseboat 9 has since been extensively remodeled from stem to stern, and filled with treasures culled from the avid art collectors’ travels—a hand-carved door from Morocco, carved Tibetan panel repurposed as a bedroom door and an actual horse trough converted into a soaking tub, just for starters.

A particularly alluring painting of Tibetan Buddha Eyes by Gemma has even been mounted on the structure’s exterior, a mix of streamlined horizontal cedar siding, reclaimed barn wood, red-hued metal and vertical zinc panels.

A spacious mural-clad great room upstairs includes the living, dining and kitchen areas.

Not only is the two-bedroom, three-bath houseboat a cornucopia of art, but the dwelling also fully maximizes its almost 2,500 square feet of living space at every turn, complete with tons of built-ins, plus a unique fireman’s pole that provides easy access from the upstairs living area to the entry level below.

Other highlights include a spacious open-concept great room anchored by a photo mural of the marina, and holding a living room, dining area, and kitchen outfitted with steel countertops and an eat-in island topped with live-edge wood salvaged from a fallen Seattle tree. Accordion-style doors stretching from the floor to ceiling also spill out to an expansive cable-railed deck sporting a diving board, as well as steps leading to a roof terrace that serves as an ideal vantage point for Fourth of July fireworks.

In the primary bath, a horse trough has been repurposed as a soaking tub.

Downstairs, a below-the-waterline primary bedroom features a walk-in closet, built-in desk, and bath hosting dual vanities, a double-head shower and the aforementioned horse-trough tub; and rounding it all out is a basement in the concrete hull cavity, which is used for storage, laundry and mechanical spaces. There’s also a 30-foot boat slip, platform for kayak and paddle board access, and two covered parking spaces.

Per the Puget Sound Business Journal, which reported on the sale, the Daggatts have decided to sell their houseboat to be closer to an aging parent. They also have homes in Seattle, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Ketchum, Idaho.

The listing is held by Moira Holley and Jay Alan of Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty.
