From Town & Country

On Sunday, as those of us in the U.S. celebrated Mother's Day, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie of Luxembourg became parents for the first time. The palace announced the happy news on Twitter, sharing that their son, Charles Jean Philippe Joseph Marie Guillaume, was born at 5:13 a.m. at la Maternité Grande-Duchesse Charlotte in Luxembourg. The baby boy weighs 3.190 kg and is 50 cm tall.

While Charles is Prince Guillaume and Princess Stephanie's first child, he is Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa's fifth grandchild. The palace also shared a photo of the little one, albeit a small one, as Prince Charles met his grandparents virtually today.

A rough translation of that post reads:

"Time stopped at the Château de Berg during a video call during which the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess had the immense joy of meeting their grandson Prince Charles for the first time. A digital meeting, certainly, but charged with emotion!"

Prince Guillaume also spoke about the birth of his son in several languages to the press today.

"Today is a wonderful day, for my wife and for myself," he said. "And probably the most incredible day that we will have in our life, because to be able to greet a child that comes into one’s life is the most magical thing, parenting, a couple can have." He went on to call his son's arrival a "blessing" during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

"In a time that is a bit more difficult ... a birth is a message of hope. It’s a blessing and I think—this is what we are so happy to be able to share with Luxembourg but also over the borders with all the different countries."
