There's More to Selena Gomez's Bright Blue Nails Than Meets the Eye
On Friday, Selena Gomez celebrated the premiere of her new Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why. The 24-year-old actress and singer made her debut as an executive producer, and she looked awesome doing it — we’d expect nothing less.
Pairing Rebecca de Ravenel’s trendy Les Bon Bons earrings with a matchy statement eye, Gomez embraced a peachy palette for her look.

Makeup artist Hung Vanngo used a pale orange shadow with a light hand on the inner corners and brow bones, keeping the saturation of color on the lids for a lifting effect.

Bright blue nails were the only exception to Gomez’s peachy beauty — a polish color that’s tied to the mental health storyline of 13 Reasons Why, in which the main character leaves behind a series of tapes explaining “13 reasons why” she committed suicide.
For Gomez, mental health is an ongoing battle, having entered rehab on two occasions to deal with her “anxiety, panic attacks, and depression,” which she says are effects of lupus.
Gomez was set to star in the series but ended up taking on a behind-the-scenes role in the show, which for her “hits very close to home,” she told CNN.
“It hits a very important part of me, and I think this is what [kids] need to see,” she said. “They have to see something that’s going to shake them. They have to see something that’s frightening… I want them to understand it… I would do anything to have a good influence on this generation. It’s hard, but I definitely relate to everything that was going on, and I was there for the last episode. I was a mess just seeing it all come to life because I’ve experienced just that.”
