Emily Brontë is getting the biopic treatment. Sex Education's Emma Mackey will play the British author, who died before her prime, in Emily, a new film about the Wuthering Heights writer's early life.

Here's what we know so far:

The cast is stacked.

Emma Mackey (Sex Education) will star as Emily Brontë, while Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) plays Branwell Brontë, Emily's Brother. Other members of the cast include Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Haunting of Hill House), Alexandra Dowling (The Musketeers), Amelia Gething (The Spanish Princess), Gemma Jones (Ammonite), and Adrian Dunbar (Line Of Duty).

Emily Beecham and Joe Alwyn had previously been announced as cast members, but are no longer involved in the project, per Deadline.

The film will mark actress Frances O’Connor’s directorial debut.

She also wrote the screenplay.

“Emily Brontë’s work and words are full of passion, feeling, violence, and fierce intelligence. In creating an imagined life for Emily, she will live again for our audience,” says O’Connor, who is known for her roles in Mansfield Park and Mr Selfridge.

“Her story is about a young woman daring to form herself, to embrace her true nature, despite the consequences. Emily is, in fact, a love letter to women today, especially young women, a calling to them to challenge themselves to connect with their authentic voice and potential. I am so excited to work with such a thrilling, talented, young cast; luminous, intelligent, and spirited.”

No word yet on a US premiere date.

The film will hit theaters in the UK on October 14. We'll update here when any dates are made public. Watch the trailer below:
