Therapy dog visits Carle nurses for Nurse Appreciation Week

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — It’s National Nurse Appreciation Week, and Carle Health has been putting on plenty of events. On Thursday, nurses at the clinic on Windsor Avenue in Urbana got a visit from a four-legged friend.

They say the job is stressful at times, but is always rewarding. A therapy dog came in to let the nurses unwind and relax for a bit. Bree the black lab was there for an hour and got lots of love from the nurses.

“The staff absolutely loved it,” Patient Manager Jolynn Stanfield said. “It’s just a chance to kind of take a couple minutes, break away from whatever other challenges they’re facing on the phone — or, you know, with a patient — and just kind of have a chance to get out of themselves and just love on a dog.”

She said the appreciation continues through Friday with some food for the nurses. Therapy animals are also visiting several other Carle locations this week.
