Theophilio RTW Spring 2022
For his runway show debut at New York Fashion Week, Edvin Thompson of Theophilio drew inspiration from Air Jamaica, which had been the national airline in Jamaica from 1968 to 2015. A plane from that airline was the first aircraft Thompson flew on when he immigrated to America in 2002. As a child he loved everything about the experience. From the fried dumplings to the colorful uniforms the crew members wore, the champagne flights and Sky Writing Inflight magazine.
The look: An updated take on what the locals in Jamaica have worn over the years.

Key looks: A powerful sleeveless Black leather button-down dress with green lines at the shoulder, which was the fist look to open the show; a soft pastel ruched green and yellow mesh dress; a stylish tie-dyed blue crocheted long-sleeved dress; hints of strong denim pieces like a skirt with a slit up the front, an oversized denim jacket and elongated denim shorts. Hints of the Jamaican flag can in be found in pieces like a crocheted cropped shirt paired with swim bottoms; a sleeveless, cutout top with a matching skirt, and a sleeveless polo dress and a formfitting catsuit.
The takeaway: Thompson is staying true to his heritage and designs with it in mind. Jamaica will always be home for him and also a place of reference when looking for inspiration.
