The Tear-Jerking Moment This Woman Realizes Her Girlfriend Can Save Her Life

When Alana Duran swiped right to match with Lori Interlicchio on Tinder, she got a lot more than just a girlfriend.

Duran, who was diagnosed with lupus at the age of 12, has been on a kidney transplant list since 2011, waiting to find a match. In this tear-jerking video, Interlicchio reveals that just like on the dating app, their kidneys are a match as well — Interlicchio will be able to donate her kidney to Duran, potentially saving her life. The cutest part? She told her by making a mock-up of a Tinder match screen, hidden at the bottom of a care package.

In a post on Facebook, Duran writes,

I’ve been waiting patiently for a kidney since 2011. It’s been 4 years and no luck yet UNTIL a little while back my wonderfully amazing girlfriend Lori Interlicchio went and got tested to see if she was a match to donate a kidney to me. It turns out she is! Who knew that when we both swiped right on Tinder that day, that we would be more than just girlfriends but that she would be my kidney donor!

Lupus has been in the news since starlet Selena Gomez announced she has the chronic condition, which requires lifestyle modification and constant management, and can lead to kidney failure. An estimated 1.5 million Americans have lupus, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. The disease can impact anyone, but 90 percent of the people diagnosed with lupus are women — and most develop it between the ages of 15 and 44.

Grab some tissues and watch the reveal in the video above, then take heart — while dating apps might not be for everyone, they can help people connect in amazing — and life-saving — ways.
