The Rock shares daughter’s bathroom emergency: ‘When they gotta go, they gotta go’

Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson shared a very relatable parenting moment on Instagram Friday involving his daughter Tia, 2, and a bathroom emergency. “When they gotta go, they gotta go,” the 48-year-old wrote on Thursday, captioning a photo of himself precariously holding the girl while she relieves herself on a patch of grass. “Baby Tia said she had to pee-pee, so we said, ‘No problem honey you have a diaper on. Pee and I’ll change it after.’”

The Rock continued, “She refused to go in her diaper (I don’t blame her) and asked if she could pee on the grass. Sure, we’re on private property, so daddy takes her to pee pee on the grass. But then she decides to renegotiate (again, I don’t blame her) and demands daddy pick her up because doesn’t want to ‘stand on the Lava Monster’ so I have to hold her while she pees... all over my new white sneakers.”

He joked, “And if I ever find this ‘Lava Monster’ fella I’m whipping its ass. Hell, I’ll take this precious memory over my sneakers any day).”

Ever the involved father, the Rock had an “incredibly complicated” relationship with his own dad, who died in Jan. 2020 from a heart attack. That relationship is depicted in his upcoming television comedy, Young Rock. The NBC series, which debuts on Feb. 16, reveals his life story as a young boy, then as an adult —played by Johnson himself — as an aspiring U.S. president.

The actor dotes on his own children, Tia and daughter Jasmine, 5, with wife Lauren Hashian. The Rock is also father to 18-year-old Simone Dwayne Johnson, his daughter from a previous marriage.

Quality time with Tia is often documented on her dad’s Instagram page, including his attempt to detangle the toddler’s hair last week. Dubbing himself “Mr. Golden Hands,” the former pro-wrestler gently un-teased her hair while she bore a “terrified” expression on her face. “I may be bald but I know a thing or two about hair,” he wrote in the post.

And he chronicles his hilarious attempts at convincing Tia that he voiced the character Maui, a self-centered demigod, in the 2016 animated film Disney film Moana. However, Tia doesn’t buy it, even while singing a duet with her dad of his character’s popular song, “You’re Welcome.”

Jasmin is also unimpressed by her superstar dad. “I said, ‘You know, that’s Daddy’s voice, and I’m going to show you,'” the Rock told People in 2019. “Maui starts singing, and I then start singing, and within 10 seconds she’s trying to put a pillow over my mouth and says, ‘You’re ruining the song.'”

No luck with his eldest daughter, either. “Simone went to a Jingle Ball concert a few years back and had met all the artists,” he told the outlet. “She came back to the house and said it was amazing and was like, ‘I’ve never been around anybody famous before.’ And I’m like, ‘No one, you sure?’”
