The Most Stylish Olympians Are the Female Golfers
And you thought the women’s Olympic hurdlers had it going on. It turns out — as lifestyle commentators Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir learned — it’s the female golfers who are killing the fashion game at this year’s Games in Rio. This comes after the sport has been absent from the Olympics for a whopping 112 years, according to the New York Times! Now that’s how you make an entrance.
Golfer Miriam Nagl of Brazil showed the world how it’s done in her home country, sporting a green-and-yellow diagonal plaid skirt topped with a sunny polo. And Shiho Oyama of Japan brought contrast to the green with red, purple, and black geometric polo set off by a long-sleeved white shirt underneath — possibly to ward off the Zika virus, as many athletes have been taking this and other preventive measures, according to Fortune. Oyama finished her look with navy blue shorts and a white belt that almost popped off the screen.
Maria Verchenova represented Russia in a blue-and-white layered dress with a hint of red peeking out from her skirt. Her floppy sunhat-meets-visor made the whole look very holiday chic.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Adidas had designed the outfits for Team USA’s golfers, according to Golf Digest. The athletic brand unveiled a line of women’s and men’s gear in coordinated red, white, and blue patterns, with pieces that included long- and short-sleeved tops, shorts, pants, and skirts.
Players Gerina Piller and Stacy Lewis both paired the same stylish jersey with summery white shorts, while Lexi Thompson teed off on Day 12 in an adorable blue skirt with a red ruffle. Even the wife of U.S. men’s golfer Patrick Reed, Justine, gets major style points for coordinating in a patriotic striped long-sleeve top.
And you have to love the Czech Republic’s Klára Spilková, who shook up the green in Hawaiian-themed tops — first a red-and-white version, then a neon-yellow showstopper.
