For beautiful makeup, the right makeup brushes are essential. Brushes allow for more precision and control so you can take charge of how much makeup (or how little) you want to apply as well as the look you want to achieve. The list of makeup brushes goes on and on, but there are four makeup brushes that are key: foundation, face blender, eye shadow and eye liner. These tools will make application easier and faster.

• Use a foundation brush to apply both cream and liquid formulas. It will help seamlessly blend foundation into the skin so that you get a polished yet natural looking finish. It’s also a good idea to use a brush to avoid adding extra oil from your fingers, or even worse bacteria which can clog pores.

• A face blender brush is a great multi-tasking tool. It can be used to apply many different powder formulas including bronzer, blush and finishing powder. This soft, fluffy brush picks up just the right amount of color and lightly dusts the face. Color never looks streaky. Keep it in your on-the-go makeup bag.

• Use an eye shadow brush to evenly apply pressed or loose powder shadows on lids. Use it dry for a softer look or wet to achieve deeper color.

• Look for a thin, flat eyeliner brush that has bristles that come to a fine point. This brush will make drawing a line quick and easy. The finer the point the easier it’ll be to line eyes closely to the lashes.

• When looking for the right brush, test how the bristles feel against your skin. Run your finger through the bristles to check that they don’t shed or break. It’s important to choose brushes with good quality bristles as this will affect how the makeup is applied.

• Choose brushes made of synthetic hair to apply creamy products, such as concealer, gel liners and lip colors. Use brushes with natural bristles when using powder-based products like powder, blush and eye shadow.
