TGI Friday's Lawsuit—See If You're Eligible for a Payout

If you've bought the TGI Fridays Mozzarella Stick Snacks, you might be eligible for a payout.

In 2021, a woman named Amy Joseph purchased a bag of the snacks based on the restaurant's fan-favorite appetizer, thinking they would include the main ingredient from its name: mozzarella. However, she was in for an unwelcome surprise when she realized that the sticks weren't actually made with that cheese. Cheddar was used instead.

The next year, Joseph decided to file a class action suit against TGI Fridays and Inventure Foods, Inc., which is the distributor behind the snack, for a violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, committing consumer fraud and deceptive practices in all 50 states and Washington D.C., and unjust enrichment, according to All Recipes.

Now, the lawsuit has reached a settlement, with Inventure Foods being ordered to pay out a settlement fund of $900,000. This allows others who were duped into thinking they were getting a mozzarella-based treat between January 1, 2017 and July 31, 2022 to submit a claim to get compensation.

As detailed in the settlement agreement, Inventure Foods can pay consumers back for up to 20 purchases of TGI Fridays Mozzarella Sticks products—including Original, Original Flavor, and Original Flavor Baked.

The settlement claim form can only be filled out once per household, and has a deadline of September 25, 2023. There's also a downside: if you did purchase the Mozzarella Stick Snacks within the dates stated above, the settlement sum you'd receive is quite low, at $0.30 per item.
