A baby bald eagle is back home with his parents thanks to the kindness and ingenuity of humans.

Severe storms knocked down a tree branch holding a nest and a young eaglet in Austin, Texas, last week. Fortunately, Good Samaritans spotted the baby bird and brought him to Austin Wildlife Rescue (AWR) to be checked out and treated.

“The eaglet was dehydrated and hungry, so we provided the (very large) baby with fluids and nourishment,” AWR wrote on Facebook.

The eaglet’s mother and father were observed to still be in the area where the baby was found, so AWR set about reuniting him with his worried parents.

“It’s always important to us to re-nest whenever feasible, since babies always do best when they can be cared for by their parents,” AWR executive director Jules Maron explained to KXAN. “Bald eagles are especially important to keep with families, so we were so happy for the opportunity to renest.”

The day after he was brought in, experts from AWR teamed up with Travis County Game Warden Canon Thomsen to get the baby re-nested.

They made a make-shift nest out of a laundry basket and nesting materials and used rope and zip ties to secure it approximately 30 feet up a tree next to the one the nest had been in.

“Then the mighty taloned nugget was placed in a bag and pulled up safely to his new nest—he seemed very excited to be back up in the tree!” the rescue wrote on Facebook.

“It’s definitely a little nerve wracking trying to balance on a ladder, secure a nest, and handle an angry baby bird of prey, but we have a pretty good method to our madness,” Maron told KXAN.

According to AWR, the eaglet’s parents have since been seen at the new nest caring for the baby.

Good work, y’all!
