When you really love to ride, there’s just no substitute for being in the saddle. And, time off the bike—whether for seasonal cross-training or because you're just too busy to ride—can be tough to handle. Running is an easy option, but only if weather and daylight cooperate. For those stuck indoors, another cross-training option is swimming. But, the black line can get awfully monotonous, really quickly. Finis has a fix for that.

The Finis Duo is a 4Gb-capacity submersible MP3 player. The speakers work through bone conductivity and fit snugly underneath the straps of your goggles. This means that you don’t have to keep the speakers flush against your ears with the volume turned up to hear your music while you swim. In fact, the more I kept my head down, the better I could hear my tunes. This made the time fly by when I could not be in the saddle.

Loading music onto the Finis Duo is really simple: Connect via the dual-function USB charger cable, and drag MP3 files onto it. I found that I could get over 5 hours per charge, but I was being cautious so as not to run out of battery mid-swim. It takes some practice to fit the Duo between your head and your goggle straps so that the speakers lay flush against your cheekbones, but once you get it right, you’re rewarded with clear sound, and a nice distraction when you’re spinning all your limbs instead of just your legs.
