Here at the Good Housekeeping Institute, we put thousands of products to the test every year in our state-of-the-art labs. During our evaluations, we assess a wide range of criteria, covering safety, performance, durability, ease of use and price point for our content. We bake cookies in ovens, scramble eggs in pans, accelerate wear and tear on bedding, put vacuums to work on all kinds of flooring — the list goes on! Depending on the product, we'll even stretch it, drop it or heat it up to make sure it stands up to real life. Then (and here's where you come in): We invite a select group of lucky GH+ members to use the product at home, and report back on how the item actually worked. Only after all that do we make our final selection on the best products to recommend to our readers and users.

Only GH+ members are eligible to become product testers. To access this exclusive member benefit, the first step is to join our GH+ membership club. Once you sign up for GH+ (it costs as little as 40¢ per week!), you have the chance to be selected to receive free products and share your experience and opinions. Recently, more than 100 GH+ testers helped us decide the winners of our 2021 Best Bedding Awards. Some even received mattresses valued at $1,000. Other members have tested sunscreen, lipstick, towels and cookware.

Curious about how to become a GH+ member and product tester yourself? Here's everything you need to know about signing up.

How to Become a Product Tester

  1. Join our Good Housekeeping membership club, GH+

  2. Create your GH+ account via the ‘Complete Your Registration’ email. Approximately one month later: You will receive another email inviting you to sign up for your product testing profile (this is separate from your GH+ member account).

  3. When you are prompted to sign up for your product tester account via email, follow the link to the GH+ Members Exclusive Testing Group page. Once there, your username is your email address. Please enter your email address and click “forgot password” — then look out for an email in your inbox prompting you to create a new password. These credentials will be the permanent credentials for your product testing profile. Reminder: These tester profile credentials are different login credentials than your GH+ member login, and you cannot sign up for a tester profile until your email invitation to become a product tester is received.

  4. Once all the above is completed, you must complete your tester profile and consent form for product-testing consideration.

Product Tester FAQs

I'm a GH+ member and I've activated my product tester profile. How do I know if I've been selected to test a product?

When you are selected for a study you will receive an email confirming your participation and providing information about when you should expect your product to arrive in the mail. You can always log into your tester account here to see your active surveys. Please note that this testing portal is separate from your MYLO account, which is the first login you created for your GH+ membership. Be sure to save both sets of credentials in a safe place!

Why am I receiving surveys from the Good Housekeeping Institute?

At the Good Housekeeping Institute, we regularly conduct surveys to find out your opinions on a wide variety of topics. Based upon the responses you give in your profile as well as pre-questionnaires that are emailed to you, the Good Housekeeping Institute team will determine which surveys are best suited for you. The more detail you include in your tester profile, the better.

Share your experience with Good Housekeeping readers.

GH’s at-home testers are often the first people to try new products — think home appliances, electronics, bedding, beauty potions and more — and your anonymous feedback might even show up in our trusted product reviews or in our magazine, along with the Lab evaluations from the GH Institute scientists and product analysts.

Don’t miss out on these upcoming testing opportunities!

• Large appliances (dishwashers, ovens)
• Small appliances (humidifiers, blenders)
• Food products (snacks, children’s food)

We can’t wait to hear what you think of the products we send you. But first, you must sign up for GH+. Several weeks after you sign up for GH+, you will receive an e-mail invite to activate your tester profile. After activating your profile, you'll be eligible for selection and participation.
