Tesla Unveils Long-Awaited Updates to Its Model 3

At long last, Tesla has upgraded its Model 3 sedan. It’s the much-anticipated result of the company's Project Highland, boasting significant modifications to the inside and outside of the vehicle.

Tesla reports that the Model 3 will see upgrades in five major areas: efficiency, performance, safety, style, and utility. The exterior of the car will have a much sleeker look, similar to the yet-to-be-produced Tesla Roadster 2.0. The tail light will also be slightly modernized. The vehicle will be one inch longer than previous models, with the full length now measuring about 15.5 feet. Ground clearance has been reduced by .7 inches, now totaling 5.4 inches.

The new interior of the Model 3 features a 15.4” front screen, and for the first time a rear screen, measuring eight inches. There’s also an enhanced steering wheel, which has replaced the control stalks with haptic switches and buttons embedded in the wheel itself. Tesla has improved the suspension and cornering of this model, in addition to adding sound-dampening materials including an “acoustic glass technology.” Also included are redesigned door trims, new ambient lighting, and ventilated seats with revised heating and new cooling functions.

The Model 3 will be available in Australia, New Zealand, and China before it hits North America. If you’re itching to get the revised Model 3, there are two variants currently available for order in Australia, including a single-motor RWD version with nearly 320 miles of WLTP range. That’s about 14 miles more than the current model. Prices for those begin at $61,900, which is an increase of $4,500 from the previous model.

There’s also a dual-motor AWD variant which runs $71,900, just a slight $1,500 increase over the previous Long Range model.
