Terry Richardson’s not exactly beloved by the industry that made him. Though fashion boosted the photographer to the top of his career, he eventually fell from grace following multiple accusations of inappropriate behavior with models and subjects. Adding to this list of finger-pointers is Kate Upton, the curvy model who, in part, owes her career to the man’s lens.

In May 2012, Richardson, whose work has appeared on the pages of Vogue, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, and more, shot Upton in his studio. He captured her on video dancing the “Cat Daddy,” which went viral after he posted it to YouTube. It’s amassed more than 21 million hits to date. But in spite of the success of the clip skyrocketing the young model to fame—her moves GIFed and shared countless times—Richardson shared the behind-the-scenes interview without Upton’s consent. Now, she tells Vogue UK, it’s “fine” because she’s famous. but at the time she did confront him: “’That was disrespectful, you could have told me!’”

Richardson’s shadiness might have worked out for Upton, but not so much for others. A career filled with a slew of rash sexual exploitations seem to have finally come back to haunt him.
