Scary clown horror movie IT was one of the surprise hits of 2017, taking $697.6m worldwide. That's crazy successful - superhero movie successful, even, from a budget of $35m.

And that's not the end of it. (Get it?!) Horror site Bloody Disgusting is reporting that there'll be a director's cut released way next year, including a potential 15 minutes of extra footage.

Digital movie is out !!!

A post shared by Andy Muschietti (@andy_muschietti) on Dec 19, 2017 at 1:26pm PST

The "regular" (but still horrifying) version of the movie debuts on DVD and Blu-ray in early January, and includes 11 deleted or extended scenes - including one where Georgie totally doesn't die and eludes Pennywise in the opening scene, apparently?! But it doesn't feature the rumored director's cut that director Andy Muschietti had teased at the time of IT's cinematic release.

Bloody Disgusting reached out to Muschietti via Instagram to ask if the new version would be coming our way and the director replied: "Yes, but in a few months," indicating there'll be an additional release of the movie with extra footage.

Whether this will include footage additional to the deleted scenes isn't clear.

Bill Skarsgard, who plays Pennywise, revealed that they shot a flashback scene from the 1600s which featured the Dancing Clown actually eating a baby. The scene didn't make the theatrical cut (we're not that surprised) and isn't listed as one of the deleted scenes so it's possible it could make the director's cut.

Details of the scene first appeared online via Reddit – it is set in 1637 and involves a woman named Abigail running into her home clutching her baby.

There, Pennywise appears as "naked, lithe, flesh pale and translucent, a half-formed imitation of a human" with "razor sharp teeth".

He then threatens her and her family, unless she sacrifices her baby to him, the script continuing:

"She turns away from the baby. Faces those dying embers. We keep on her face as they seem to begin GLOWING BRIGHTER AS - OVER HER SHOULDER - OUT OF FOCUS - Pennywise crawls over to the Baby and starts to feast.

"SHARP CRY FROM THE BABY CUT OFF as we hear a CRUNCH. Abigail continues to look into the BRIGHT ORANGE GLOW of not the flickering fire... ...but the DEADLIGHTS. Her expression changing. Fear. Denial. Grief. Acceptance. And then nothing. Just a glazed look. AS IF NOTHING HORRIFIC IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING BEHIND HER."

Dark.
