A professional ballerina helped develop this relaxing bath soak for relieving sore and tired muscles — so you already know it really works

Sometimes, a bath is all you need to relax and unwind. You can fill your tub with a luxurious bath oil, a foamy bubble bar or a sizzling bath bomb if you want to upgrade your experience. However, Tenoverten’s new Recovery Bath Soak is especially great for soothing sore and tired muscles — and a professional ballerina helped develop the formula, so you know it works.

Use it in the bath tub or for a foot soak.

Tenoverten worked with Isabella Boylston, a principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, to develop its new mineral bath soak. According to the brand, Boylston was looking for a relaxing ritual post-rehearsals. The soak contains sea salt, Epsom salts with arnica extract, colloidal oatmeal and non-oily jojoba oil. This mix can hydrate skin, improve elasticity and firmness and, of course, help relieve sore muscles after a hard workout, a long day of traveling or whatever has your body feeling stressed. In Boylston’s case, it may be after completing “Swan Lake’s” signature 32 fouetté turns (you can watch how it’s done on her IG).

Epsom salt is a naturally occurring mineral that, when mixed with warm water, dissolves magnesium and sulfate, which can be absorbed into the body through your skin. This, in turn, may help with sore muscles. According to an article by the Cleveland Clinic, there aren’t many studies proving its efficacy, but many integrative medical experts recommend it. Using it is simple and comes with minimal risks for the average person anyway. (The Cleveland Clinic, however, suggests people with severe skin inflammation or open wounds steer clear.)

To use The Recovery Bath Soak, pour a handful into warm, running bath water. According to the brand, you should let it dissolve and soak your body in it for at least 20 minutes to reap all the benefits. However, you can also use it simply as a foot soak — mix it into water and let your feet soak for at least 10 minutes.

I was able to try the bath soak at Tenoverten’s nail salon in NYC. The nail technician poured The Recovery Bath Soak into a tub of water for a pedicure, and before she even scrubbed and massaged my feet, I felt super relaxed. The Epsom salts are naturally infused with eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils, so they smell really good. But my feet felt especially tired from walking all over the city the day before, and when I left, I felt like I could easily walk my next set of 10,000 steps.

You can purchase The Recovery Bath Soak online for $28. If your feet are your biggest concern, Tenoverten also sells a soothing balm and a sleep mask for softer, smoother feet, among other hand and foot care products.

Use it in the bath tub or for a foot soak.
