Tennessee's own Weigel's named among the best gas stations for road trip food

Need a quick bite to eat or a sweet treat while on a long road trip, or even when you're in town just stopping for gas? Weigel's has you covered. Readers agree it's a 2024 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards winner.

The popular Powell-based chain received a spot in this year’s best gas station for food category thanks to its bakery and options of pizza, sandwiches and other other snacks.

It's joined on the list by two other chains that have a presence in East Tennessee: Casey’s and Buc-ee’s.

Best Gas Station for Food

Weigel's serves doughnuts, cookies, muffins and other sweets from the bakery, and has hot foods like pizzas, sandwiches, fried chicken and breakfast foods.

It got its start way back in the 1840s as a dairy, and still gets milk from the farm to the store in 24 hours. The store serves up wild seasonal milk flavors like birthday cake, orange creamsicle, cookies and cream, lemon cookie, banana pudding and Moonpie.

There are dozens of Wiegel’s locations in Knoxville and throughout East Tennessee.
